Over the past few months, the project team has made significant progress in advancing the PIECES Study, which aims to evaluate the performance of the Primary Cancer Prevention Implementation Toolkit (PCP-IT). This online toolkit is designed to guide implementers in the selection and adaptation of primary cancer prevention programmes.
The PCP-IT is being deployed across multiple diverse settings, enhancing the robustness of this multi-site case comparison. To date, more than 20 Implementation Teams—referred to as PCP-IT Implementers—have been successfully recruited across eight countries: Spain, the Netherlands, Albania, the United Kingdom, Italy, Ukraine, Ireland, and Germany.
The geographical diversity, socio-cultural heterogeneity, and variety of primary cancer prevention programmes included provide an ideal context for examining effective approaches to improve and scale up the use of the PCP-IT.
Each PIECES Implementation Coordinator, based within the eight countries, is responsible for training the implementation teams and overseeing the entire process. This comprehensive support ensures that teams are fully equipped to apply the toolkit effectively within their local contexts. Implementation teams are now preparing to start using the PCP-IT.
Following training, teams will undertake key steps including the selection of a primary cancer prevention programme from the PIECES PCP Repository, adaptation of the programme to meet specific population needs, identification of implementation barriers, and selection of appropriate implementation strategies. Throughout this process, Implementation Coordinators will provide ongoing guidance and supervision.
