Catalan Health Service (Spain)
The Catalan Health Service (CatSalut) is the entity that guarantees public health care to all citizens of Catalonia. It was born in 1991 as an entity for planning, evaluation and financing of services and benefits, within the fields of health and social health care.
In order to comply with its main objective of guaranteeing quality public coverage assistance to all citizens of Catalonia, it carries out the function of purchasing health services from the various provider entities, based on the health needs of the population it defines the Department of Health and also evaluates the satisfaction of citizens with the services provided.

Jordi Piera
Dr Jordi Piera-Jiménez is dually trained in Computer Science Engineering and in Business Management by the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He also holds a MSc in Telemedicine, a PhD in Medical Informatics by the Open University of Catalonia, and a MBA by the Polytechnic University of Madrid. In the academic field, Jordi holds various positions in different universities in Catalonia and abroad. He is also the lab lead at the DS3 research group, affiliated to the IDIBELL research institute. Jordi is currently the Director of the Digital Health Strategy Office at the Catalan Health Service and Director at openEHR International.

Caridad Pontes
Caridad Pontes, MD, PhD. Consultant Physician at the Service of Clinical Pharmacology, Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau (Barcelona), Associate Professor of Pharmacology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and external expert providing consultancy services to the Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices for European Scientific Advice procedures. From 2016 to 2023, managing director at the Medicines Area of the Catalan Health Service (Catsalut), where she joined the DS3 group as senior researcher in 2020. Previous professional experience includes hospital activities in clinical pharmacology and academic research , as well as 15 years of early clinical development of innovative drugs, R&D regulatory affairs, pharmacovigilance and pharmacoepidemiology in the pharmaceutical industry. Currently President of the Catalan Society of Pharmacology and member of the Executive Committee of the European Association for Clinical Pharmacology.

Gerard Carot
PhD in Pharmacy (ScB in Pharmacy and ScB in Biochemistry). After working for 5 years as a Researcher at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Gerard started an exciting journey through the continually evolving path of medical writing. He is currently writing and coordinating scientific manuscripts for independent medical researchers, particularly committed with outstanding research groups such as the STI and Skin NTD Unit of Fight AIDS and infectious deseases foundation and the DS3 research group of the Catalan Health Service.

Alba Jiménez
As a biologist currently pursuing a Master’s degree in digital health, Alba is dedicated to exploring the transformative potential of digital technologies in healthcare. With a background in EU project management, her focus lies in providing support to research and innovation initiatives aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery and improving patient outcomes.

Marina Ramiro
Marina Ramiro is a postdoctoral researcher at DS3-IDIBELL, where she dives into healthcare data projects, aiming to make a real difference in medical research. She is always been intrigued by the stories data can tell and how we can use them to better our world. Outside of work, she is an enthusiast for outdoor activities like hiking and climbing. Music holds a special place in her heart too. Her guiding principle: “Think it, plan it, do it.”
Beatriz Gómez
Beatriz holds a Bachelor’s degree in Statistics and a Master’s degree in Epidemiology. She currently works as a researcher in several projects, including the PIECES project in Barcelona. She is also pursuing a PhD in Methodology of Biomedical Research and Public Health.
