The PIECES project has started the first round of interviews to evaluate how the Primary Cancer Prevention – Implementation Toolkit (PCP-IT) performs in real settings as part of the project’s qualitative evaluation. Across Europe, project teams are speaking with multidisciplinary experts using the PCP-IT to explore how it helps them select, adapt, and implement effective primary cancer prevention programmes.
The first interviews, carried out in Ukraine and Spain, were open, reflective, and practice-oriented, with implementation teams sharing valuable insights.
The PIECES team from the Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine has carried out the first user interviews with implementation teams. A total of three implementation teams based in Ukraine were interviewed to assess the Toolkit’s performance. Each team represents a regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), bringing together multidisciplinary professionals working on noncommunicable disease (NCD) prevention programmes.
The PIECES partners from the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) in Spain became the second project team to conduct in-depth evaluation interviews of the PCP-IT Toolkit, visiting Clínica Terres de l’Ebre and University Hospital Joan XXIII, both based in Tarragona. The clinic’s multidisciplinary team, including professionals in medicine, nursing, and occupational health, shared their initial experiences using the Toolkit.
Key Takeaways from the Interviews
- Appreciation for the Toolkit’s structured approach, which supports planning and coordination.
- Constructive feedback on technical issues and limited access to some repository materials.
- Valuable experiences and reflections from teams across different contexts and programs.
Their feedback provides valuable insights that will help refine the tool and enrich its overall evaluation.
