The PIECES project, a European initiative to implement evidence-based primary cancer prevention programmes, was presented by Dr Cristina Martínez from the Catalan Institute of Oncology at the I Tobacco Forum in São Paulo, Brazil, on 1 November. This forum, dedicated to tobacco control and respiratory health, brought together professionals and researchers from Brazil who showed great interest in the innovative approach and potential impact of the project.
During her presentation, Dr Martínez highlighted how PIECES addresses key modifiable risk factors such as smoking and physical inactivity using a toolkit based on the theories and principles of implementation science. The relevance of the project was clear to participants, who recognised its potential for adaptation beyond Europe and invited the PIECES team to share their findings once the study is complete. This international interest reinforces the project’s potential impact on cancer prevention worldwide, advancing knowledge and effective practice in different regions.
