The PIECES consortium is pleased to announce the publication of a new scientific article in Implementation Science Communications, presenting the study protocol for the evaluation of the PIECES Toolkit, a cornerstone output of the project designed to support the adaptation, implementation and evaluation of primary cancer prevention programmes in real-world settings.
Published on 23 June 2026, the open-access article, “The PIECES multi-site comparative case study protocol: mixed methods implementation evaluation of adapting, implementing and tailoring primary cancer prevention programmes in diverse contexts”, describes how the PIECES project will assess the usability, feasibility and impact of the toolkit.
The study protocol outlines a mixed-methods evaluation that will be conducted across 11 sites in Europe and Australia, representing a wide range of healthcare and community settings. The research will assess the toolkit’s usability, feasibility and impact on implementation competencies, while also exploring how, why and under which circumstances the toolkit supports the successful implementation of primary cancer prevention programmes.
By generating evidence on effective, context-sensitive implementation practices, the study will contribute to the field of implementation science and support the long-term sustainability of primary cancer prevention initiatives. The findings are expected to help organisations and practitioners make better-informed decisions when adapting and delivering evidence-based interventions in diverse settings.
