Representatives of the PIECES project took part in the 4th and final meeting of the Prevention and Early Detection Cluster – Implementation Research, held in Athens on 9 October 2026. The meeting brought together partners from the Cluster’s six projects to reflect on their collective achievements and discuss how implementation research can continue to strengthen cancer prevention efforts across Europe.
The event marked an important milestone for the Cluster, providing an opportunity to review its contributions to policy and practice, share lessons learned, and explore opportunities for scaling up effective cancer prevention strategies. Discussions also highlighted the final outputs developed by the Cluster’s five Working Groups and their potential to support future action in cancer prevention and early detection.
For the PIECES project, the meeting offered a valuable forum to exchange experiences with fellow Cancer Mission projects, identify synergies, and contribute to the ongoing dialogue on how to improve the implementation of evidence-based cancer prevention programmes across diverse European settings.
Although the Athens meeting marked the conclusion of the Cluster’s formal activities, participating projects will continue collaborating over the coming year to disseminate key findings, promote the Cluster’s outputs, and maximise their impact among policymakers, practitioners and other relevant stakeholders.
Through its participation in this final gathering, PIECES reaffirmed its commitment to supporting evidence-informed cancer prevention and to working alongside European partners to advance effective and sustainable prevention policies and programmes.
